Those fractures which are irreducible by closed manipulative reduction or unstable (reduction of fracture not maintainable in plaster cast) or the fracture which have muscle/soft tissue interposed between fracture fragments, require open reduction (Exposing fractured bones & physically putting them together in anatomical position). Internal fixation is done to maintain fractured bones in position till union takes place. Various kind of implants used to stabilize fracture such as:- Wires, Screws, Plates, Intra medullary nails, locking nails etc.
